Mechatronics Brushless DC Motor

  The brushless DC motor is a new type of mechatronics motor that emerged with the development of semiconductor electronic technology. It is a combination of modern electronic technology (including power electronics and microelectronics technology), control theory and motor technology.

  It is well known that DC motors have superior speed regulation performance, which are mainly manifested in good control performance, wide speed regulation range, large starting torque, low vulgar performance, stable operation, high efficiency, and a wide range of applications from industry to civilian use. In an ordinary DC motor, the electric energy of the DC enters the armature winding through the brushes and the commutator, and interacts with the stator magnetic field to generate torque. Due to the presence of electrical contact parts-brushes and commutators, a series of fatal defects have been produced.

  1) Reversing sparks generated by mechanical commutation cause wear of the commutator and brushes, electromagnetic interference, high noise, and short life;

  2) Complex structure, poor reliability, many failures, and frequent maintenance;

  3) Due to the existence of the commutator, the further decrease of the rotor moment of inertia is restricted and the dynamic characteristics are affected.

  In many applications, it is an important source of system unreliability. Although the DC motor was the first to appear in the history of motor development, its scope of application was therefore limited, and the latecomer and reliable AC motor was developed and replaced by a wide range of applications.
